President's Message

Dear Bangladeshi Community Members,

It is my immense pleasure that Bangla School of Regina has developed a website to communicate with our community members for better understanding and mutual benefits. Since its establishment in 2009, our endeavours as always to keep our language vibrant and alive among our community people and teach our children our mother language.

21st February holds a special place in the heart of every Bangladeshi people. This is the month when Bangladesh celebrates the language movement of 1952 and honours those sacrificed their lives for the right to speak in Bengali, simultaneously sowing the seeds of their independence movement which was to free Bangladesh from colonial power Pakistan.

It has been a day of pride for Bangladeshi people that the supreme sacrifice made on this day by the brilliant sons of the soil in 1952 has eventually led to the recognition of preservation of mother language worldwide. Perhaps we are the only nation who sacrificed their precious life for establishing mother language. The UN International Mother Language day annually celebrates language diversity and variety worldwide on 21st February in recognition of the right to speak, promote and preserve all mother language across the world.Saskatchewan Organization of Heritage Language has more than 80 language school across the province to promote and preserve the mother language. Bangla School of Regina is one of them who devoted to promote and preserve the Bangla Language in Regina SK.

Language is a crucial part of any culture and dominant feature in determining the bases of nationalism or ethnicity as it represents the identification of nation and preserves heritage. In other words – Language is the symbol of identity of a nation. It is the first tool for a child to express himself or herself. There are over 6900 living languages in the world. Bengali is the 5th most spoken language with nearly 300 million speaks. That is why we start with a slogan – AMAR BHAIYER RAKTE RANGANO EKUSHEY FEBRUARY, AMI KI BHULITEE PARI. So, we are the proudest nation in the world which has such a rich and fabulous language and culture. It is our moral obligation and social responsibility to do our best to promote and preserve Bangla Language.

Present Principal Zabed Mohammad added a new dimension to our curriculum. He has taken the trouble to write the Text Book – Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3. The books are printed in Dhaka, Bangladesh and brought it in Regina with the help of few dedicated community members like Sayem and Shovon. A copy of Books has been given to Regina Public Library, SOHL and MLAR each. All of them highly appreciated our effort in keeping heritage language alive. Our heartfelt thanks go to Zabed. We are grateful for the extended support for the volunteer teacher and dedicated students in the advancement of our beloved language Bangla.

We greatly need the support of the Bangladeshi Community members by sending their children to Bangla School of Regina and help us in bringing all the community members together.

We wish you very happy times with Bangla School of Regina.
